Kickstarter and Tables, Sure? – So I Backed the Wyrmwood Modular Gaming Table

After I discovered the wild world of tables designed for board gaming last year, I’ve been wanting to invest in a table ever since. Luckily, I stumbled onto Wyrmwood and the amazing products they make. I’m all for quality products that may cost more, but will actually last for decades. I’m at the point in my life where Ikea furniture doesn’t excite me, I want something made out of real wood that was assembled by a craftsman and is backed by their warranty.

So if you check out their amazing tables, you’ll soon find out just how much that craftsmanship costs. (hint. a metric fuck-ton). Their legit Prophecy table is around 20 thousand dollars, which is really insane to spend on a table. It’s just a hard thing to commit to that large of an amount of money. Add that to the fact that I’m moving and will be living in a foreign country for multiple years, and will then move again after that. It seems like something that will have to be looked into further down the line when I’m settled into my forever home.

Luckily, Wyrmwood has come out with a cheaper table. They’ve done this through the furniture company that made their chairs, which they are in the process of purchasing. While the tables aren’t as nice, or have that super polished hand crafted quality about them, they do seem to stand out from the competition. That and I really like the company and what they stand for, which I got from watching almost all of their Youtube content.

So I signed up for the Kickstarter, the third project I’ve ever backed, at their International shipping tier. This means that I’ll get a table in January of 2021, so I have some waiting to do. I haven’t picked out all the specifications of the table, so I don’t know what the final price will be. I think it will end up around 4-5 thousand when all the accessories and wood selection are picked out. This is still a lot of money for a table, but I think I’ll get a good amount of use from it from playing board games like Gloomhaven, and perhaps a puzzle or two.

I’ll write another post when the Kickstarter ends and I’ve made all the selections for the table, it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out and what the final bill will be.

While this may sound like an advertisment for Wyrmwood, it’s really not. I just like the people that make their tables, I suggest you check out their Youtube channel but try to ignore the annoying media guy that is always trying to make a thing out of nothing. This is not a plug or anything, they have plenty of backers so who cares if you order a table. I would really like one of their big table though, how much would shipping to Japan run me?
